FEATURED SHOWS
The Speakerine, The Collection
HOOK
A life in the limelight with power and prestige comes at a cost.
WHO are we targeting?
Fans of 20th century period thrillers. These are stylist, aesthetically beautiful shows. The Collection more for fans of Mr. Selfridge; The Speakerine for fans of Mad Men, but both linked by their place, period and themes. Viewers will be drawn in by an underexploited period of time,
WHAT do we want to communicate?
It’s a French double-bill. Two shows, contemporary in tone, but set in post WWII France, a time of rebirth, reinvigoration and reinvention; France was rising from the ashes of war and in this time gave birth to bold new waves of fashion, entertainment, empowerment of women and an openness to homosexuality. These are shows of style and substance, where fashion, beauty and glamour mask dark secrets of the characters’ pasts, sexualities and motivations.
The Collection begins in 1946 when rubble and debris still litter the streets. The brothers Sabine have survived war and now set out to use fashion as a vehicle to drive growth and transformation in Paris. Although both brilliant, Paul is the driven, business minded professional, while Claude the artist, prone to recklessness and hedonism. Both harbour great secrets which once revealed threaten to tear their business and vision for a new Paris apart.
The Speakerine is set in the early 60’s, where Christine Beauval is the picture of the perfect post-war French woman; effortlessly juggling her responsibilities of wife and mother and holding a position of prominent new presenter in the male dominated world of television news. But all is not well. Her husband is hiding death threat letters from her; and when a public attempt on her life fails, Christine must choose to bow to the danger and retreat from her public life or fight for her position and for all women struggling in a male dominated world.
WHY are we doing it?
This is a second chance for our audience to catch one of if not both of these gripping dramas. They’re both set in mid- 20th century France and deal with people in the limelight having to deal with difficult family dynamics, so pair nicely as a double-bill. The intention is that viewers are attracted to both and lock themselves in for a double viewing experience.
