Epic Drama
Format: Promo
Platform: TV
Region: CEE, Baltics
Project brief:
HOOK
The tough London detective continues to investigate murders and fight crime in 1960s Northern England.
WHO are we targeting?
Our core Epic audience who love crime, murder, detective dramas. It’s the same audience who re-watch Endeavour for the fourth time, because they love the environment, the style, the episodic nature of the programme.
WHAT do we want to communicate?
This promo will be airing straight off the back of the launch promo that introduced the character to the Epic audience. For this reason it must be as distinct as possible from the previous promo.
Gruff Londoner chief Inspector Gently continues to find his feet and bed in to his new surroundings in Norther England while he and young but headstrong detective Inspector Bacchus tackle more murders and build on their mentor/protégé relationship, which is the heart of this programme. The series goes to great lengths to entrench itself in the era, the murder mysteries are always topical, set to a backdrop of big events of the day (protests against the Polaris, The 1966 World Cup, the rise of the TV pop star) and the show is seeped in ubiquitous garb and apparel of 1960’s England. The elements of the changing world are all at odds with Gently but could be used to good effect by us to distinguish this series and this show from our other products on the channel which are set in different eras.
WHY are we doing it?
This is pitch perfect for Epic viewers, who love Endeavour, another detective drama set in 60’s/70’s England following a tightly wound but brilliant detective solving murders in a seemingly unassuming corner of the British countryside. We want this to reach the same audience and make George Gently as much of a staple with the Epic audience as Endeavour Morse.
