FEATURED PROGRAMMES
Aussie Lobster Hunters Season 1 & 2, Spiky Gold Hunters
HOOK
Head down under and set sail with some charismatic prospectors of the oceans in search of treasures of the sea.
WHO are we targeting?
Fans of men at work and particularly our Aussie men at work shows. It’s male skewing, for the men who love to watch relatable, hard working, honest talking men, risking their lives to make ends meet and to maybe make a fortune. This is a chance to introduce fans of our other antipodean programs to these two. For pre-existing fans of one but not both series, who may have missed or not been convinced by Spiky Gold Hunters for example. This is an opportunity to convert these viewers into fans of both by presenting both series together as complimentary programs.
WHAT do we want to communicate?
It’s our two favourite Men Down Under at Work on Water shows, aired back-to-back for a night on the dangerous seas of South Australia and off the coast of South New Zealand. Whether they’re Aussie or Kiwi, these charismatic Antipodeans are putting their lives on the line for their livelihoods. The risks are great, but the rewards greater.
In New Zealand, the treasure is Spiky Gold! Sea urchins are a sought after delicacy and a one-billion dollar a year industry. So it’s no wonder these rough, tough, courageous, charismatic cowboys of the sea, brave the treacherous waters and contend with freezing temperatures to strike it rich.
While north on the map, their Aussie neighbours to the north have the most prized seafood delicacy in the world in their monocular – the giant rock lobster. Priced at one-hundred dollars per kilo it’s no wonder why this has become such a competitive industry, with the lobstermen not just competing with the elements and the choppy waters but now with themselves.
Come aboard Explore’s ship and prepare to sail the seas in search of treasures of the ocean. It’ll be tough work, with ups and downs; dangers lie ahead, but there’s also a lot of fun to be. And at the end of it, will be the sweet victory of a bountiful haul of sea gold or an empty net?
WHY are we doing it?
These are two very complimentary programs that will appeal to the same audience. This is a chance to convert viewers of one to the other and create dual viewers who will be invested in these series for future outings which we have planned on the channel.
