VIASAT History
Format: Promo (Stunt)
Platform: TV
Region: CEE, Nordics
Project brief:
The first of several stunts built around the idea of CIVILISATIONS to air through 2020. If some graphic/ icon or logo could be created, we could then use that on subsequent promos to help build this little brand.
FEATURED PROGRAMMES
The Story of Europe, End of Empire (2, 3, 4), London: 200 Years of History, The Celts
HOOK
Discover the story of how modern Europe came to be…
WHO are we targeting?
Our more academic viewer who is interested in the development of cultures, beliefs and people. The shows featured are higher brow, mostly presenter-led. This said, the events they cover are iconic and often ubiquitous, that have gone on to shape our world, so there is the chance to attract a wider audience.
WHAT do we want to communicate?
This is the story of how the European civilisation we know today came to be… It’s a vast, epic story about the shaping of a continent, and the evolution of people who would leave their homelands and shape the rest of the world. It’s a story that charts millenniums, sees races arrive and colonise, others migrate and prosper, other vanish or be annihilated. From the Ancient World to the Modern World; from Empires to Unions; tiny settlements to Castle fortresses to modern metropolises; disconnected, untamed terrains to developed connected freely navigated systems of transportation. This is a series of programs that looks at the development of London and England over 2000 years as a microcosm, and then expands it to the macro and looks at the whole of Europe, from the Northern tip and the way the Vikings went from humble farmers to conquerors who would change the course of European History, to the south and how modern Turkey represents a diverse mix of cultures from Europe, Asia and Africa. Discover the stories behind the modern world, through the epic battles that occurred on these lands, the great men who conquered or civilised them from Julius Caesar to Napoleon to Winston Churchill, and the great minds like Louis XIV and Samuel Pepys and many more whose vision and work helped inform the knowledge and shape the continent we call home.
WHY are we doing it?
The story of Europe as a continent is as rich and dense as any story one could possibly ever imagine, with a cast of iconic characters, locations that vary from exotic and breath-taking to harsh and unforgiving, legendary events and indelible moments of history that have shaped the modern world. This collection of programs touches on all pillars of History and the style of the programs veers towards the academic, so will work very well for our more learned audiences.
