HOOK
Discover 5000 year-old secrets, as spectacular new artefacts and treasures are unearthed from one of the most mysterious periods in human history.
WHO are we targeting?
Fans of ancient history, especially ancient Egypt. They love being taken back to the time period, being in that world, making new discoveries and learning new things about the era. It’s for the armchair adventurers, who love the idea of trekking across the desert, searching through tight, little passageways in the hope of finding treasures and making remarkable discoveries. Fans of archelogy who also like the scientific side of how modern technology allows us to gain greater insights into our past.
WHAT do we want to communicate?
We want a promo that is visually spectacular and really catches the eye and demands attention. A promo filled with the iconic sights of Egypt’s ancient past juxtaposed with the Egypt of today. Something that promises new and amazing discoveries from a period of time so shrouded in mystery and associated with legends.
Experience 5000 years of history. 5000 years of mysteries. Travel back to the time of The Pharaohs, stunning palaces, obscene wealth, unimaginable poverty and the only Natural Wonder of the World to withstand the sands of time – The Great Pyramids.
Separate fact from fiction and discover how legends were born, in a series of shows that explore the past by shining a light on the present, unearthing new discoveries and examining the oldest artefacts to be found. From scanning the Nile, to decoding Saqqara solving the mystery of The Great Pyramid and discovery a lost pyramid, forgotten by time. Plus in a premiere series Zahi Hawass delves into the remaining Egyptian constructions, full of secrets and unsolved mysteries, on a 3-month long dig and makes an astounding discovery! A completely intact burial complex buried deep under the sand at the foot of the pyramid of King Teti. Filled with treasures and exceptional artefacts, the site offers huge potential for Egyptologists. With exclusive access to this mission, using CGI, 2D computer graphics, 2D and 3D maps, X-ray analyses, along with live footage and interviews of international experts both in the laboratory and in the field, the series shows how the team was able to open each sarcophagus to investigate the mysteries of the necropolis and understand who was buried here.
WHY are we doing it?
Egypt forms a key part of one of the pillars of the channel. As a time period it is rich in history, mystery and spectacle. We have a strong inventory of shows that have rated well for us, supported by a strong new premiere title, we want to go really strong on this ever-popular period of history and offer our audience a season worthy of the Great Egyptian dynasties.
